AARON GETTINGER, REPORTER
I am the youngest child of newspaper publishers in rural Southern Indiana and the descendent of schoolteachers, corn and soybean farmers, chicken farmers, a businessman, a geologist, a state legislator and a cook. I went to public elementary and secondary schools, studied sociology and American studies at Stanford University and have a master's degree from the University of Chicago.
Since March 2018, I have been a staff writer at the Hyde Park Herald, where my beats are fire and police, politics and government, the U. of C. and parks, including the Obama Presidential Center. I am available to freelance for any publications outside of Chicagoland.
Aside from that, I am an avid backpacker and cook and have a broader interest in the history, politics and culture of the United States. Like all the good gay men from Indiana, I live in Chicago.
